Tanzanian elections postponed

The Tanzanian national elections, which were supposed to take place October 30, have been postponed until December 18. The decision to postpone the election took place after the running mate of an opposition party, Chadema, died last week of natural causes. The presidential election is expected to be won by Jakaya Kikwete, the leader of Tanzania's ruling party, Chama cha Mapunduzi (CCM). CCM has led the country for more than forty years. The current president, Benjamin Mkapa, is stepping down after completing two, five year terms in office.
