Rolling blackouts started in Arusha today. Tanzania is currently experiencing an energy shortage due to the lack of rainfall over the past few months. As Tanzania relies heavily on hydroelectricity for electricity, the record low river levels have greatly reduced the amount of electricity produced by dams.
The blackouts should not effect safaris in the national parks as most of the lodges rely on generators and solar power for electricity.
