The rains have finally arrived in the Serengeti. Heavy rains fell in the Ndutu area on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. With the rain, the wildebeest should return to their normal migration pattern, moving over the Central Serengeti area to Ndutu.
The rains have been extremely unusual this year, with the northern national park region getting only 25% of its normal rainfall for the season. Lake Manyara is at very low levels, and the wildlife's normal migration patterns throughout the region have been altered dramatically. The long rains are not expected to start until late March.
